Picking a leasing agent is a lot like picking a lover.

Picking a leasing agent is a lot like picking a lover. You want someone who is kind and honest, someone who has your best interests in mind and a person who you wouldn’t mind meeting your parents before you make an important life decision. Just like a new boyfriend or girlfriend,  you might at first look around for other options or string a few different ones along, but if you find someone you really like and trust, and who you think cares about what you want, why not commit to them and see where it goes?

Not all leasing agents are created equal. All leasing agents share practically the same inventory. There are few exceptions but overall a good leasing agent can get you into almost any apartment in Chicago. All leasing agents also have a legal duty to care for their client, to be obedient, loyal, be honest , and keep your information confidential. What makes leasing agents different is how serious they take those principles they are required to uphold. So, next time you’re thinking about working with an agent, think about if they are doing their best to follow these duties, and if they are, consider sticking with them.

Your leasing agent is your most important asset to finding an apartment in Chicago. We make your appointments based on your schedule. We are the only ones other than you that know exactly what you’re looking for in an apartment and are searching for places with a stainless steel refrigerator, or the big yard for your dog.  Once you leave us and find someone else, it all starts over. Now, a stranger needs to learn all your wants and needs and the whole process begins again. If you’ve found a good leasing agent, stand by them because they have your best interests in mind.

A good leasing agent/client relationship is just like a good marriage. If you are both honest and forthcoming about your needs, your finances and care about what each other wants, you will achieve whatever it is you set out to do together (in this case find a great apartment). Tammy Wynnette once sang “Stand By Your Man” and I implore you today to stand by your leasing agent, and if they don’t turn out to be the person you thought they were…you can always get a divorce…and the nice thing about divorcing yourself from a leasing agent…no paperwork.
